Chronicle is hitting theaters tonight at midnight, and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the Cloverfield-style superhero movie. The story here is pretty simple: three highschool students discover a giant hole in the ground that gives them super powers. The question is, what do you do when you can do anything? Nothing can harm them and soon their “lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over,” according to the plot synopsis. Sounds fun. The special effects look good too, especially considering the low $15 million budget. Then again, District 9 wowed us a couple years ago with a budget of only $30 million and Cloverfield only had a $25 million budget, so anything is possible. So far, the more I see of it, the more excited I get.
Astute TV viewers may also recognize some of the cast. Dane DeHaan, who plays the evil one, has appeared in True Blood and In Treatment, and Michael B. Jordan had a very memorable role in the first season of The Wire (Wallace) and has been all over TV ever since, appearing in All My Children, The Assistants, Lie to Me, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood.
Chronicle hits theaters tomorrow. We’ll have our review up by Saturday.
