First look at The Amazing Spider-Man's mask

Filmonic has posted a first look at Spider-Man's mask and suit in The Amazing Spider-Man, the upcoming reboot of the series previously starring Toby Maguire. As is usually the case with Hollywood, the new design seems to have a grittier look to it with more detail than the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. It all looks a bit more rubbery, but it's cool how you can make out Peter Parker's eyes inside the mask, if you look hard enough. The previous mask (see below) looked a lot more spandex-ey. The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3, 2012 and is being directed by Marc Webb, who made one of my favorite films, 500 Days of Summer.
Here are a few casting details:
- Martin Sheen is Uncle Ben
- Sally Field is Aunt May
- Irrfan Khan is the Proto-Goblin
- Emma Stone is Gwen Stacy
- Andrew Garfield is Peter Parker (and Spider-Man)
- Rhys Ifans is The Lizard
You may remember Garfield from The Social Network last year. Here is what he looks like in the Spider-Man suit. While many have criticized the new direction, I'm leaning toward liking the new, somewhat weaker looking Spider-Man.

Finally, here is a shot of Spider-Man's mask as he fights a That 70s Show version of Venom.
