James McAvoy to play Ian Fleming, the man behind James Bond

Now this looks interesting. James McAvoy (Atonement) is attached to play a young Ian Fleming in an upcoming biopic of the author. Fleming is the creator of James Bond and author of 12 books based on her majesty's super spy. Of course, there are 22 Bond films out now, and another around the corner, but most of the post-Roger Moore films, save Casino Royale, are not based on Fleming's novels.

According to Pajiba, the film has a $40 million budget and is based on the book, Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, by Andrew Lycett, who has written a number of biographical books, including one on Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. It focuses on Fleming's inspirations for the Bond stories, which come from his years as an "aimless playboy" and life changing experiences during World War II.

I didn't know that James Bond was somewhat autobiographical. Hopefully they get the rights to use Bond images and music. Either way, McAvoy is a great choice, and is good at tailoring himself to roles. His career could take a tumble if he screws this one up though. Just ask George Lazenby.

From what I remember most of the persona of James Bond actually comes from the life Ian Fleming had and wished he had after his stint in the surface but before he was married. I also think that the island where Ian Fleming wrote at least casino royale if not all of his books is referenced in several of the movies. With the name of his home being Goldeneye. Just some interesting tidbits, sounds like a cool movie since Ian Fleming did some crazy stuff in the war as well as his success later on.
